Do you have plans to do a pilot or demo project within the area of climate or environment? The LIFE grant scheme has opened up again, and your might be considered. If you provide the programme with a convincing concept note, you can receive up to 55 to 70 percent funding for your project.
LIFE calls published on 18 April
The European Union published the so-called calls for proposals on 18 April for different components of the LIFE scheme. Subjects within these calls differ from demonstrative projects for limiting emission, to pilot project for increased energy efficiency to information campaigns to increase awareness around waste recycling.
- Calls for Proposal to finance ‘Traditional Projects’ under the LIFE sub-programme for Environment
- Calls for Proposal to finance ‘Traditional Projects’ under the LIFE sub-programme for Climate Action
- Calls for Proposal to finance ‘Integrated Projects’ under the LIFE sub-programmes for Environment and Climate Action
- Calls for Proposal to finance ‘Preparatory Projects’ under the LIFE sub-programme for Environment
Which call matches your plans?
The LIFE programme and regulations are extensive. It can be hard to determine which call matches your plans. For instance, they differentiate between traditional projects, integrated projects and preparatory projects. It is important to decide beforehand what category your project fits into, because that can decide the success rate and the amount of funding you receive.
Also, you may only start making fundable costs in your project after you have signed a contract with the European Commission. That may mean you can’t start the funded project until halfway through 2019 – though once you do, your costs may be fundable for 55 to 75 percent. What all of it amounts to, is preparing yourself thoroughly to determine if you should or should not apply for LIFE funding.
