The European Commission has published the 2024 calls for the Innovation Fund, aiming to promote net-zero emission technologies, the production of battery cells for electric vehicles, and renewable hydrogen.
The Commission has launched two calls and one auction call, emphasizing the EU's commitment to strengthening European leadership and production capacity in innovative net-zero technologies, striving for climate neutrality by 2050. The first two calls have a deadline of April 24, 2025, while the auction closes on February 20.
Below are the published calls:
- General Call for Net-Zero Emission Technologies (IF24 Call)
With a budget of €2,400,000,000, this call supports decarbonization projects of small, medium, and large scale, as well as initiatives focused on producing renewable energy components, energy storage systems, heat pumps, and hydrogen production.
Furthermore, for the first time under the Innovation Fund call for proposals, Member States will have the possibility to complement the Net-Zero IF 24 Call with national funding schemes. This new option, called ‘Grants-as-a-Service', allows the Member States to leverage on the Innovation Fund's evaluation process and streamlined State aid approval process.
- Call for Battery Cell Manufacturing for Electric Vehicles (IF24 Battery)
With a budget of €1,000,000,000, this call focuses on supporting projects for the production of innovative batteries for electric vehicles or the implementation of advanced manufacturing techniques.
- Auction Call for Hydrogen from Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin
The call, based on the auction mechanism, launched on December 3, 2024, will provide a budget of €1,200,000,000 allocated to European producers of renewable hydrogen as a ‘renewable fuel of non-biological origin’ (RNFBO).
Deadline: 20/02/2025 and 24/04/2025
