Started at the beginning of the 2017, the KaRMA2020 project aims to realise the industrial manufacture of bio-based products starting from feather waste stream from poultry industry, has reached significant achievements, including awards and relevant results. The new success of the project comes by the project coordinator, Cidetec, that has published the results of its work in the article “Fully Biodegradable Biocomposites with High Chicken Feather Content” published in the journal Polymers.
The article describes the development of new biodegradable polymeric materials with high concentration of chicken feather (CF). By the analysis different properties, CIDETEC demonstrated that these 100% fully biodegradable biocomposites resulted potentially adequate for panel components, flooring or building materials as an alternative to wood–plastic composites. In line with the KaRMA2020 project objective, this will contribute to the valorisation of chicken feather waste as a renewable material.
